The 64 new first years have been settling in to life at secondary school and enjoying exploring the Lower School Houseroom. Here are some of their thoughts at the end of their first week:

I was really excited to start Abingdon and I thoroughly enjoyed last week. It was great to have a variety of lessons some of which I have never had before, such as chemistry, art and Latin. I have come from a really, really small school with only six boys in my year and so it has been quite exciting to make some new friends. I am looking forward to trying out new sports and the activities available.

I have had a really fun first week at Abingdon. It has been really enjoyable getting to know all the pupils and staff. I feel like I know my way round the school a lot more so I’m not getting lost every lesson! I’ve also really loved trying new things in the Other Half. I had never, before this week, tried either yoga or a chess club. I have really enjoyed all these activities.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week at Abingdon. My favourite lessons so far have been English, DT, chemistry, biology, maths and PE, although all of the classes I have had so far have been enjoyable. I have also had fun in my first few other half activities; those being swimming, Lower School science and touch rugby. The lunchtimes have been exceptional, and I always find myself pressing the smiley face on the feedback machine in the Dining Hall!

I have really enjoyed this week in 1P, and loved trying out many new lessons and opportunities that I haven’t had the option of doing at school in the past. My favourite lesson so far has been English, in which I wrote a piece of descriptive writing about a fictional island.

I have had an excellent first week at Abingdon and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet lots of new people and new classmates. I have loved settling into and being part of the Abingdon community and cannot wait to take on the next challenges that will be thrown at me this year.

Although I was slightly nervous about various different things for the first week of school, it has turned out to be an absolute blast! Already, I have tried things that I never imagined I would do and begun digging deeper into subjects that I am familiar with.

In the first week of my Abingdon School adventure, I have felt so encouraged to do my best but also at the same time enjoy this exciting new opportunity for me. Finding my way to lessons has surprisingly gone better than I thought it would go, and I can’t wait to do my activities that I have signed up for! The Lower School Assistants have been very friendly, supportive and helpful in terms of getting me going at Abingdon and so has my second year mentor.

I have had an amazing first week here at Abingdon. I have enjoyed playing card games in the Lower School and have loved all my Other Half clubs such as science club and today I have enjoyed the churros we cooked at cooking club.
