We have had two fantastic events in the last two weeks. Solo Platform No. 3 took place, featuring ten advanced soloists performing a wide range of wonderful repertoire. The event provided yet another clear example of Abingdon School’s high-standard music department. Not only did it showcase the musicians’ advanced technical skills, but it also highlighted the musical detail within each performance and the thorough preparation that went into them.
The Cello Masterclass also took place last week, with Peter Adams—concert cellist and sought-after teacher—working with five cellists, as well as offering invaluable advice to the wider cello group. Peter had a wonderful way of explaining and demonstrating specific skills and techniques on the cello to enhance both sound and interpretation for each cellist. Although the lessons were only 20 minutes long, the improvement in each performer was astonishing and immediately apparent. Peter concluded the evening by performing a solo himself, which was both highly impressive and deeply inspiring.
