This term a new MUN group for 3rd year boys started at Abingdon – Young MUN. The group has been meeting weekly under the guidance of our new Head of MUN, Alasdair Czaplewski and his Deputy, Lancelot Wilson. The boys, with assistance from Kit Mannix, designed a 'How to MUN' program designed for boys who had never taken part in a conference before.
On Saturday, the boys travelled to London to take part in an MUN conference for 3rd year pupils held at Bishop Thomas Grant School in Streatham. The event was a huge success and the quality of debate high as students tackled the Rohingya Crisis in the Security Council, nuclear disarmament and the use of torture in the other committees.
A special mention to Aryann Gupta who was awarded a most distinguished delegate award, Jack Tilley and Owen Henney who were both awarded distinguished delegate awards and Johnny Stavropoulos, highly commended. At the closing ceremony the boys listened to the Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Christopher Wellbelove, who gave a passionate speech about the importance of young people making their voices heard in society today and the value of the Model United Nations.
Earlier this month, the senior boys attended a MUN workshop held at SHSK. This was an excellent opportunity for boys in the 4th year and L6th to practise their skills and also for those new to MUN to have a go. Even some of the 5th years returned from study leave to take part in the day.
We would like to express our thanks to the MUN teams at BTG and SHSK for organising these excellent events.
