Last week twelve Abingdon Sixth Form students took part in the MFL debating competition at Cheltenham College and were able to put their rhetorical skills to the test, tackling topics ranging from gender equality to whether pineapple on pizza should be strictly forbidden.
One group suffered a close defeat in the French semi-final with only one point in it, while one of the Spanish teams went on to win in the final against some stiff competition from Cheltenham Ladies College. All teams impressed the adjudicators and gained much praise for their performances as runners-up.
It was inspiring to see all participants engage with the topics at such a high level whilst having a lot of fun in the process. The Lower Sixth should be particularly commended as they often went head to head with Upper Sixth opponents and more than held their own.
