Friday’s weekly lunchtime concert was a thoroughly informal and relaxed affair, featuring an eclectic mix of instrumentalists.

First, we heard 4th Year violinist, Isaac Conway, in Rachmaninov’s Vocalise. Casper Whitfield on bagpipes followed with a short medley of tunes, including Amazing Grace.

Our First Orchestra leader, Oliver Smith, was next on with an Allemande in D minor from a Bach Partita for solo violin, whilst Thomas Chorley demonstrated his fantastic recent progress as a French horn player.

Finally, we heard Jonathan Ochero in a beautiful Donizetti piece arranged for oboe, whilst Toby Williams, accompanied by his teacher, Liz Drew, played us out with a little jazz on the clarinet – Golden Mile by James Power.

Coordinated and accompanied by our Head of Instrumental Studies, Lynette Stulting, these weekly informal concerts give players of all ages and standards a chance to try out their pieces in front of a supportive audience, and in so doing learning so many skills about how to present their performances.
