Lower School boys were very pleased to welcome back Paralympian Talan Skeels-Piggins to their Be the Best You Can Be celebration. In his inspirational talk, he told the boys and their parents about the highs and lows he has experienced since last being at Abingdon in September. He has certainly lived up to the promise he made to the boys to be the best he can be by becoming World Champion in the 600cc motorcycle paralysed rider category at the end of last year!
Introduced by their tutors, each second year tutor group gave a presentation about their time in Lower School with 2C reflecting on the “bus ride” they have been on, 2H talking about their recent sponsored marathon which raised over £1000 for the charity Alexander Devine Children's Hospice, and 2J giving a variety show celebrating all the different talents they collectively possess.
The end of year prizes were then awarded as follows:
Academic Prizes: Jack Veal (1G), John Cairns (1M), Oliver Veal (1P), Philip Kimber (2C), Tom Woodrow (2H) and Toby Pinnington (2J)
Baker Award: Matteo Bignone, Harry Gee, Philip Kimber, Thomas Mennie, Dillan Patel and Khadim Sagna
Broadbent Cup for Sporting Excellence: Jack Veal
Lower School Fencing Trophy: Harrison Blumfield
Cooper Cup for Excellence in Reading: Alexander Lees
Dillon Cup for Service: Olly Tibble
Woodgett Cup: Addison Hill
The evening ended with a slideshow of photographs from the second years' time in Lower School and encouragement from Mr Jenkins that they should now move in to Middle School determined to “make a difference”.
