After its recent screening at the Sorbonne in Paris, it was a delight to witness another public showing last week, this time in London, of a new film by two Fifth Year members of Abingdon’s Film Unit. Here, the cinema in question was the Ciné Lumière at the Institut Français in South Kensington… and best of all, one of the filmmakers was able to attend.
Directors Beany and Sasha had been unable to travel to Paris at the start of June as they were in the middle of their GCSEs, but with those now behind them, Sasha was free to come and talk about his film, and field questions from the audience, led by Mark Reid, former Head of Film Education at the BFI, and the UK coordinator for the Cinéma, cent ans de jeunesse programme.
As in Paris, the film was warmly commended by those who saw it, and Sasha spoke eloquently about the process of making it. Sadly, Beany was unable to attend, but he will be doing the honours next time the film is presented – at the AFU’s annual film screening in November.
