The 51st race of this historic and prestigious event was staged in War Memorial Park, Coventry, in near perfect conditions. Entrants came from Cumbria, Kent, Suffolk, North Yorkshire, Wiltshire & Shropshire and gazed in awe at the fastest legs historic list that included Seb Coe (76th), Alistair Brownlee (44th), Jonnie Brownlee (21st), Richard Nerurkar (19th) and Rowan Miell-Ingram (7th). Johnny James picked himself up from the floor at the start line to finish his 3.7km leg in 3rd place and a blistering 5th fastest lap of the day (11:15). Quinn Miell-Ingram brought Abingdon back up the field before a strong fourth leg from Oli Sherratt moved the team further into contention. Henry Channon’s strong tactical performance saw Will d’Arcy take over for the final leg with a two second advantage over Shrewsbury. However, the Shrewsbury runner would run the fastest leg of the day (10.55) and Abingdon had to settle for third place. The B team finished in 20th, beating the A teams of 15 schools. Fourth years Sam Wood & Ralph Allen ran sub-13 minute legs and will hopefully be part of a senior team in years to come that can challenge the all-conquering Judd School.
