The Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival celebrated worldwide, was commemorated by Fourth Year students in collaboration with SHSK’s Mandarin learners. Embracing a spirit of teamwork, students participated in cultural and linguistic quizzes centred around the festival. Instead of paddling on water, they crafted their own “dragon boats” and competed using “words” that soared across the table. They also made Zongzi, a traditional Chinese food for the festival, following descriptions written in Chinese. The celebration concluded with the traditional Pitch Pot game, a historical activity dating back more than 2000 years to the Warring States period, blending history and culture in a modern-day context.
