This term’s joint Lower School social between Abingdon and St Helen’s took the form of a dinner debate. The main debate saw St Helen’s proposing the motion “This House believes we should focus on adapting to, rather than limiting, climate change”. The six main speakers were all very well prepared and there were lots of good ideas put forward in the floor debate. It was a close thing when it came to the final vote, but victory narrowly went to the Abingdon team. After a dinner of lasagne, salad and a chocolate brownie, a balloon debate took place in which mixed groups had to argue on behalf of their choice of the most important invention of all time. Despite some convincing arguments being put forward for the invention of language, medicine, the wheel and the mobile phone, the overwhelming winner was the humble waffle!
