The second and final Roysse Society Lecture of the Michaelmas term was given by Peter Williams, British business leader famed for founding the Jack Wills clothing company. The scholars enjoyed hearing about his rise from secondary school student in Birmingham to leader of one of the most identifiable global brands. A Level business and economics students were also in attendance and asked some excellent questions about the future of business in the post-Covid market and the rise of more ethical processes for making fashion. It was a fascinating talk and lessons were learned, not only about business, but also about the humble and good humoured way in which Peter moved through his career. A key message was that “great businesses are run by people with high ethical standards.”
