Ivan Leung has received an Award for Excellence in Geographical Learning from the Royal Geographical Society, RGS, after achieving the highest mark in the country in Edexcel’s IGCSE Geography. Abingdon had four candidates in the top ten and seven in the top 20 in the country.

Ivan only dropped 4 marks in the three-hour long examination achieving an outstanding 176 out of a possible 180 marks. Ivan gained an impressive 11 GCSEs in total, all with A* grades.

Speaking about his success Ivan said, “When I came out of the geography exam I thought I hadn't done as well as I'd hoped. The questions I had wanted didn't come up so I really wasn't expecting this, it was a very welcome surprise!”

The RGS, (with the Institute of British Geographers) is the UK's professional body for Geography. Each year it recognises high achievers in A Level and GCSE examinations with ‘Awards for Excellence in Geographical Learning’. The winning students each receive a cash award and certificate from the Society.
