On Monday, we held our annual House Ensemble Competition. Each house assembled a small ensemble showcasing a range of musical styles from Jazz to film music. Tom Richards OA, conductor, composer and arranger was invited in to adjudicate the competition. Tom has cultivated an incredibly varied career so far and was perfectly placed to judge the range of music on offer. His adjudication was thoughtful, encouraging and inspiring. In the end Crescent emerged as the winner with a lively and technically accomplished rendition of ‘Caravan’, a 1936 tune by Duke Ellington and Juan Tizol, that felt fresh and exciting. Pygott’s and Donnelly’s followed closely in second and third place respectively. Congratulations to all the performers and a huge thanks to Tom Richards for coming back to adjudicate.
