Magdalen College School
On Wednesday the 1st XI played a great fixture against local rivals MCS. With a larger than normal crowd and a warm day, the boys played some of their best hockey to date. With attacking promise from both sides it was Abingdon who broke the dead lock with an impressive short corner from Aran Johal. From this point onwards Abingdon was in full control, a nice reverse finish from John Corran gave them the buffer that they deserved going into half time 2-1 up. The second half continued at a fast pace, Abingdon again took the initiative going 4-1 up, with some fantastic attacking play. The game ebbed and flowed, with Abingdon defending as a unit and attacking with pace. The game ended 5-3 to Abingdon. A fantastic display from all involved.
Wellington
This weekend saw Abingdon take on Wellington College. Away from home the U15Bs stole the show, winning 6-0 against a good Wellington side. A special mention should go to Patrick Heath scoring all 6 of the goals. The U15 As played well and earned a 1-1 draw, with chances available, they couldn't quite edge out Wellington for the victory. The 1st XI continued their winning ways, with some brilliant attacking play on display. Scoring another 5 goals, the pupils are playing some fantastic attacking hockey at the moment. The 2nds and 3rds played some excellent hockey, but unfortunately couldn't convert all their chances to claim the victory against their opposition.
At home, the U16 A and B teams secured two accomplished victories. The U16B, ran out 6-0 winners with their best performance of the season. The U16As played well, pressing impressively and out-letting efficiently, running out 2-0 winners. The U14As continued their impressive season, winning a comfortable 5-0 at the fortress Tilsley Park. Unfortunately the Bs and Cs struggled to find the net, amongst many chances, they just couldn't convert into goals.
Overall another brilliant and competitive block for all involved. The league is hotting up, please follow the below link to see where our teams are standing.
