Week 7 provided another busy week for the Hockey Club.
The 1st XI maintained their run in the National Cup competition, playing at Bisham Abbey against Sir William Borlase’s. With Borlase’s striking first the squad re-grouped to play some scintillating attacking hockey, with some clinical finishing, the boys go onto the next round against Dr Challoner’s next week.
The U12s and U13s enjoyed a day out of coaching, watching the RHC 2nd XI play and ten-pin bowling at Reading Hockey Club. The boys were coached by Australian internationals from the club in the morning, learning new skills and exciting new playing styles. In the afternoon the squad showed off their ten-pin bowling skills too. It is great to continue our already very successful partnership with Reading Hockey Club.
On Tuesday the U13s and U12s played four fixtures vs The Dragon School. There was some brilliant displays of hockey, in particular the U12 A XI who played their first eleven-aside match. They used the space incredibly well, playing some good attacking hockey. This attacking prowess was only allowed due to some brilliant defending from all of the team.
A note for your diary:
We would like to invite all hockey players and parents (from Third Year to Upper Sixth) to the annual Hockey Griffens Dinner & Awards on Saturday 21 March.
After playing our final ISHL 2020 matches against Bradfield College in the afternoon, the evening will start with a drinks reception in the Charles Maude Room at 7.30pm. A three-course meal, speeches and end of season awards will follow from 8pm. There will be a cash bar and raffle on the night.
Dress code: black tie
Tickets for the dinner are £40 per parent and £25 per player, and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
This event always sells out quickly, so we encourage you to apply early through the school box office. Any profits made on the evening go towards the Friends of Abingdon Hockey Club fund. This fund has most recently purchased masterclasses from international players, 30 x young ones sticks for all to use, team dugouts and scoreboards up at Tilsley Park. The Club is currently fundraising to contribute to subsidising trips and tours for the pupils, continuing our partnership with RHC and Fortitude GK coaching.
Proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Blue Skye Thinking.
We hope you can join us for a fitting celebration of the end of hockey season.
NB: It is essential that all ticket holders complete the dietary requirements form they receive once payment has been made.
