February half term saw 17 Abingdon boys and eight St Helen’s girls travel to Germany to stay with their exchange partners and their families. The boys were thrilled to experience the German school day which, albeit starting early, finishes around 1pm every day and allowed them much free time. The absence of a school uniform, less homework, good food and lovely families made some consider moving to Germany before the dreaded date of 29 March (many debates over Brexit were held!).

The visit to the football museum in Dortmund was a treat with plenty of space to play indoor football and kicker. In Hamelin, we found out that there is little truth to the legend of the Pied Piper as we know it, while the annual visit to Dr Oetker offered pudding on tap and plenty of pizza. Some have already arranged private visits for the future – always a sign of a successful exchange.
