Week 9 of the football season got underway with the lower school sides playing the Dragon. Away from home the U12 As secured an excellent 1-0 win whilst the U12 Bs left with a 2-2 draw. At home, the U13 As lost 1-4 whilst the U13 Bs also came off second best on this occasion.
Thursday saw Abingdon welcome Kingham Hill to School, and the U14 Cs had a cracker against Kingham Hill U15 Bs eventually winning 3-2 whilst the U14 Bs continued their excellent run of form with a 4-0 win against Kingham Hill U14 As. On Waste Court, Felix Kind was again in goal scoring form as the U14 As won 7-1 vs Kingham Hill U15 A.
Moving to Saturday, and what was anticipated to be a competitive weekend against St John’s Leatherhead School was made even more competitive with the windy conditions. On the Main School site the U14 Ds put in a strong performance against St John’s U14 Cs 1-2 the final score, whilst the U14 Bs remain unbeaten with a 4-1 win. The U14 As defended whole-heartedly and performed well on Waste Court and on other occasions may have got more out of the game. 0-1 the final score. Across at St John’s, Eddie Good’s double helped the U15 As to a 2-0 win, whilst Callum Ryall scored two of the U15 Bs 3 goals in their 3-0 win. Leo Vine scored two as the U15 Ds lost to St John’s U15 Cs 2-4.
Back at school the U16 As found the conditions tough at Tilsley Park, 0-2 the final score whilst the 16 Bs secured a 1-0 win against a good St John’s Leatherhead side. Hat-tricks for Max Upton and Samuel Miles helped the U16 Cs to 7-0 win.
Over at St John’s Leatherhead having gone 2-1 up early on, the conditions got the better of the 5th XI in their defeat, whilst the 4th XI lost 1-4. A second half comeback was nearly complete for the 3rd XI, having been 0-4 down at half time they battled back to 3-4. If only there had been another 5 minutes of play! The second XI found the going tough against a strong St John’s outfit, 1-5 the final score.
The 1st XI fixture was highly competitive and having got to half time playing into the wind at 0-0 the Abingdon side was more than in the game. A cagey second half came to life with 3 minutes to play as Jamie Masters broke free and finished neatly on the angle to give the Abingdon side a 1-0 win away from home in a competitive and blustery encounter.
