Week 2 of the football season saw Abingdon play against four different oppositions from U18 down to U12.

Starting with the Lower School, and despite a number of absentees due to illness, after going 1-0 down in the first half goals by Jack Deeker and Angus Barclay-Watt secured a 2-1 win for the U12 As against Caldicott, whilst the Bs suffered defeat in a competitive fixture. On Lower Field the U13 As played well against strong opposition, 1-4 the final score whilst the game of the day has to go to the U13 Bs who were part of a 7-8 cracker!

The U14 As welcomed Aylesbury Grammar to Tilsley Park, and despite going in 0-3 down at the break, a much improved second half performance and a neat finish from Theo Mara saw the game finish 1-4. The U14 Bs also went into the break 1-0 down, however after an inspired team talk battled back to a convincing 1-3 win Seb McAllan, Jay Patel and Rowan Miell-Ingram with the goals. The U14 Cs also secured a win, 2-0 the final score.

On the second game of the day at Tilsley Park, seven different scorers got their name on the score-sheet as the U15 As won 7-1 against their Aylesbury Grammar opposition, whilst a last minute free kick gave the U15 Bs a 3-3 draw. A much improved U15 C performance unfortunately was not enough to secure a win, however the boys should be encouraged by their performance.

A much improved performance for the U16 As also saw them go toe to toe with Aylesbury, 2-4 the final score with goals from Huw Williams and an own goal whilst the U16 Bs on this occasion lost 0-2.

Moving into the afternoon and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI travelled to St Edward’s on a very wet and miserable afternoon for football. Ben Ling was again on the score sheet for the 4th XI scoring 4 in the sides 10-0 win against St Edward’s 3rd XI. The 3rd XI played some delightful football with outstanding individual performances in a great team effort, 11-0 the final score. The 2nd XI took on the challenge of St Edward’s 1st XI and didn’t disappoint, goals from Barney Bussell and Max Paton securing a terrific 2-0 win away from home.

The Football Club now looks forward to the 1st XI fixture against MCS on Tuesday, U15 A County Cup fixture against Burford on Wednesday and then a full block fixture against Hampton School on Saturday.

Many thanks for your continued support on a very wet and windy touchline!
