Over the activities weekend, 30 upper sixth students and three staff went to the Field Studies Centre in Margam, on the Gower in South Wales. The aim was to understand how to apply theory to practice, and see how environmental factors affect the distribution of species in the wild. Three ecosystems were looked at, including a rocky sea shore, sand dune system and a freshwater stream. Students learnt about how to safely and ethically catch animals, including mice and shrews, and use them to assess the biodiversity in that ecosystem. Thanks to everyone involved, and we enjoyed getting out and about again.
