Forty parents and children from four local secondary schools worked together at the Engineering Development Trust (EDT) Family STEM Challenge evening. After an introduction to engineering and the amazing range of opportunities it offers, teams were challenged to build a table-top roller coaster with the longest possible run time for a marble released from the highest point. The seven teams each came up with an amazing variety of ingenious designs to beat the challenge time of 12 seconds set by an EDT engineer. Incredibly, three teams beat this, with the winning team achieving a huge 28 seconds for their run. It was fantastic to see pupils from Abingdon, St Helen's, Fitzharrys and Europa Schools all spending the evening together and we hope to run more events for families to enjoy together in the future. ASP would also like to thank the Geography Department for providing such a fine venue in Greening Court.
