Abingdon Science Partnership and Abingdon’s Physics Department have been running GCSE Astronomy classes as an Other Half option open to third years upwards for a number of years. The Abingdon beginners’ class, run by Miss Perry, has been meeting online this term but is hoping to make a return to face to face sessions after Easter. The exam class, run by Mr Thomas, is now preparing for assessment this summer, with three fourth years and one lower sixth currently taking the GCSE. They have also been joined remotely by one student from John Mason School who will also take the assessments. Meanwhile another session is being run remotely every Thursday for a very keen group of beginners, all in Year 9 at Oxford Spires Academy and Matthew Arnold School. Some recent work on colour imaging is shown in the photographs, along with an image of the Orion Nebula taken by the John Mason student using his own telescope.
