In September, the ESSA South East Oxfordshire qualifiers took place here at the Abingdon pool. The school hosted many different teams such as: Abingdon, Radley, St Birinus, Stowe, Bloxham, Lord Williams’s, MCS, John Hanson, Headington, St Helen & St Katharine, Didcot Girls’ and Oxford High. It was an afternoon of feisty competition for the hope of qualifying for the ESSA National Finals taking place at the London Aquatics Centre.
The two events were the 4 x 50 medley relay followed by the 4 x 50 freestyle relay:
- Abingdon Junior Team: 1st in Medley Relay (2:26.69), 2nd in Freestyle Relay (2:13.12)
- Abingdon Intermediate Team: 1st in Medley Relay (2:10.51), 1st in Freestyle Relay (1:55.31)
- Abingdon Senior Team: 1st in Medley Relay (1:51.04), 1st in Freestyle Relay (1:41.41)
A special shoutout to our under 18s who managed to break the school record for the medley relay. We keep our fingers crossed that our teams have qualified for the ESSA Finals as we wait for official results and a massive congratulations to everyone who competed.
