Since the return to school Abingdon musicians have been thoroughly enjoying playing music together in rehearsals. Playing in ensembles is one of the things that we missed the most during remote learning. The pupils are working together on three contrasting arrangements of music for orchestra, including Offenbach’s Barcarolle, a medley of melodies from Gounod’s opera, Faust, and Trepak, a fast Russian dance by the composer, Prosper Morand.

These pieces are just some of the works that will be performed at our end of term Summer Concert on Thursday 1 July. The concert will also include the School’s First Orchestra in the finale from Dvorak’s New World Symphony, Schumann’s Cello Concerto and an exciting new orchestral work, The Mountain, by sixth form composer, Nick Raptakis.
