England Rugby U19s Training Camp at Abingdon School
Abingdon School was privileged to host the England Rugby U19s for a two-day training camp this week, as they prepared for their upcoming international fixture against Japan U19s at Iffley Road.
The visit provided a rare and inspiring opportunity for the school community to witness an international age-grade performance environment at close quarters. Across the two days, players and staff operated with an exceptional level of professionalism, intensity, and attention to detail, offering a powerful example to Abingdon pupils of what is required to perform at the highest level.
The camp was led by Mark Mapletoft and his England Rugby colleagues, whose openness and willingness to engage added greatly to the experience. Many pupils took the opportunity to watch sessions, ask questions, and gain insight into the demands of elite rugby, making it a particularly valuable and memorable occasion.
The success of the visit was very much a whole-school effort. Colleagues across Estates, Grounds, Catering, Operations and Safeguarding worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the environment matched the standards expected of an international squad. Particular credit must go to the Grounds team for the outstanding preparation and rapid turnaround of the pitches, which were widely praised by visiting staff.
Abingdon School is extremely grateful to England Rugby for choosing to base their preparations here and wishes the squad every success in their upcoming fixture.
