Five Lower Sixth students recently completed their DofE Gold Canoeing training and practice expedition over four days at the start of the Easter Holiday. Day one at Dorchester Lake focused on essential paddling skills and capsize and rescue training.
Navigating the waterways in two canoes and a touring kayak, days two and three took the group along the Kennet and Avon Canal, which included passing over the picturesque Dundas Aqueduct and learning how to efficiently portage locks. They finished on day four with a paddle on the Oxford Canal.
Despite the frosty spring mornings, the weather remained largely clear, and the tight-knit team of five showed excellent camaraderie, teamwork, and determination throughout the journey. They are now fully prepared for their final assessment expedition on the River Wye in July.
