In the final week of term, eight Lower Sixth students tackled their Gold DofE Canoeing Assessment on the River Wye. Launching from Locksters Pool, they paddled over 110 km across four days to Monmouth, applying skills honed during training and their Easter practice on the Kennet & Avon and Oxford canals.
The expedition tested both physical endurance and teamwork. From navigating moving water to cooking at remote campsites like Byecross Farm and Ross Rowing Club, students demonstrated resilience, leadership, and camaraderie throughout.
On the final day, the team rose at 3.45am to begin their last leg — a sunrise paddle to their finish point — reflecting both their determination and the expedition’s spirit of adventure.
Completing the Gold Expedition is no small feat. These students leave the Wye with not only a major achievement but also lasting memories and newfound confidence. Congratulations to all!
