It's been a busy week for croquet with three fixtures and a chance to get new players out to test recently acquired skills and tactics on our new and improved lawns.

Saturday was home against Winchester College, traditionally our toughest opposition so we were glad to draw on games but to concede on difference of “hoops run”.

Monday was away at Radley College, again a tough opposition, with a fixture history going into this match 2:1 down on aggregate. We were happy to take a strong team this year and achieve a healthy 7-5 win levelling the annual aggregation of matches to 2 all.

Finally Wednesday away at Winchester Croquet Club playing Portsmouth Grammar School. This was a chance for some of our younger players and the boys enjoyed excellent pitches, hosted by Dr Ian Harrison and with additional help from our own Coach, Avril Rangoni Machiavelli. Another solid win for Abingdon, ending a very busy five days.

Plans are in place for the OA fixture on Saturday 15 June and a tournament with Radley, Winchester and Eton on Sunday 23 June. Summer is here!
