On Monday, Charlotte Higgins, the chief culture writer for the Guardian, came to speak to classicists from Abingdon and other local schools on the title of 'In the Labyrinth: Catullus, Ovid and Titian'.
Charlotte is a classicist by training and has published books ranging from Greek influence on the modern world to the sites of Roman Britain. In this talk she explored some of the themes of her latest book, Red Thread, and the way that the idea of the labyrinth has been developed and explored since antiquity, and particularly through art.
It made for a fascinating exploration of ideas through a wide range of media and cultures. We were delighted to welcome back several OAs to the talk and dinner which followed. The OAs have just embarked on various classics and linguistics courses at University.
