On Wednesday, the Chapel Choir had the privilege of singing Choral Evensong at Salisbury Cathedral. With the first half of the Lent term dedicated to learning the music for this service, the Chapel Choir were excited about their first cathedral visit of the year. The opportunity to sing in such a stunning setting was immediately clear upon entering the Cathedral and the students sang with clarity, style and nuance. Following the opening responses by Ayleward, the choir sang the psalm with clear diction whilst the canticles chosen were Charles Wood’s setting in Eb No. 2. Elgar’s wonderful anthem ‘The Spirit of the Lord’, taken from his oratorio, ‘The Apostles’ provided the choir with the opportunity of both subtle and refined quieter and reflective moments whilst the majestic acoustic of the cathedral enabled the climaxes in this anthem to soar. A wonderful privilege and opportunity for the 59 students of the Chapel choir and it is very much hoped that we will return in the near future.
