On Friday, nearly 40 Chinese 3rd and 4th year students, parents and teachers spent a memorable evening together at the Reading Town Hall watching a “Culture of China, Festival of Spring” show delivered by the professional artists from Jiangsu Province Department of Culture.
This was for some students their first taste of classic Chinese stage performance. The acts included famous Beijing opera, acrobatics, folk songs, traditional instruments and dance which could be traced back to the Tang and Song Dynasties. Some of our boys, along with the Reading Girls' School pupils, were even invited onto the stage after the performance to take a photo with the performers and other honourable guests.
This experience will help our Chinese class students develop their understanding of Chinese Media and Culture beyond that which can be achieved via a textbook, and will also support their preparation for this important topic in the GCSE exam.
