Three middle school students have been carrying out some university level chemical syntheses, including the microscale reduction of a ketone using sodium borohydride.
Following the synthesis the students carried out a number of chemical and physical tests with amazing results. The students also got to use the research standard infra-red spectrometer which they wouldn’t usually use until the Lower Sixth.
