Our final evensong of the academic year saw the Chapel Choir travel to Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford. Following on from the earlier visits in the year to Salisbury and Winchester Cathedrals, the choir were in good voice as they sung Stanford’s setting of the Evening Canticles in Bb Major, whilst the anthem chosen was Herbert Howells’ ‘We have heard with our ears’, a work composed during the Second World War. The choir sang with commitment and clarity and enjoyed the opportunity to perform in such a historic and wonderful setting. The choir looks forward to their final service of term at the Leavers’ Day when works by Howells, Gibbons and Parry will be performed alongside rousing hymns!
