On Tuesday the Chapel Choir ventured out to St Helen’s Church to sing choral evensong for the first time in well over a year. Due Covid precautions were observed, with the choir members grouped by year rather than by vocal line, and parents sitting in seats carefully allocated by the church authorities to ensure distancing. Despite the comparative inexperience of some of the younger members, the choir’s singing was well up to its usual high standard under Adam Treadaway’s expert direction, in Stainer’s setting of the canticles and SS Wesley’s anthem Thou wilt keep him. The lessons were read by the choir’s only two upper sixth leavers this year, Andreas Lo and Owen Ravden, who also served as cantor for the Responses. The Choir is looking forward to being able to sing with fewer spacial restrictions next term.
