The Chapel Choir returned to the magnificent setting of Tewkesbury Abbey to sing Choral Evensong. It is always a great privilege each term to venture further afield from our regular Abingdon ecclesiastical settings and we have been lucky enough to sing at some of the most impressive locations and buildings over the last few years, with Tewkesbury being no exception. As ever, the boys rose to the occasion admirably as ambassadors for the school, both vocally and in terms of their conduct, and both elements were praised by the congregation and staff of the Abbey. The music included the Canticles in G by Stanford, as well as his Anthem, “Oh, for a Closer Walk With God”, both of which ideally suited the setting, acoustic, and organ of the Abbey, as well as the choir this year; and featured impressive solos from Oscar Bennett in the Magnificat and Brooklyn Han in the Nunc Dimittis. Brooklyn was also an excellent Cantor for the responses and his perfect pitch ensured very slick and professional transitions in the service. There was a healthy gathering of congregation and it was particularly good to see many friends and extended family members of the choir in attendance – many from the nearby area. We look forward to turning our attentions towards the Christmas music now, in preparation for the three Carol Services at the end of term.
