It was a delight to return to the Chapel of the The Queens’ College in Oxford to sing choral evensong. This was the first performance of the year for the Chamber Choir and it was wonderful to perform in such a beautiful and acoustically rewarding setting. It was a busy service, opening with Gibbons’ ‘Almighty and everlasting God’ as the introit. Following responses by Ayleward and a psalm, the choir performed Purcell in G Minor as the canticles. There were lovely solos for Alexander, Tom, and Micky whilst it was a delight to be accompanied on the Chamber organ by Mr Morrin. Our anthem for the evening was Wesley’s ‘Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace’, a gentle and reflective anthem sung with clarity and nuance. Following a brief homily from the chaplain, there was time for a hymn for St Michael’s and All Angels, ‘Angel Voices ever reigning’. We are very grateful to the college and chapel for allowing us to visit and do hope to return in the future.
