This week we’ve been investigating the amazing world of insects. Starting off with insect anatomy, students gathered to watch a live locust dissection in the Yang Science Centre. It was fascinating to see the inside of an insect, especially to learn about how they breathe.

On Wednesday, we looked at the very interesting possibility of entomophagy (eating insects). The need for protein in our food chain is high, so people are looking at introducing insect-derived protein into agriculture. We decided to taste a few crunchy delicacies at break time instead of our usual snacks.

The week culminated with an invitation to join the Entomology Club to inspect their impressive collection of mantids, butterflies and stick insects. We’re already buzzing with excitement for next year’s celebration of insects!
