Amongst the opportunities available to students through our partnerships programme is the chance to be taught and take a GCSE in Latin. We’d like to offer our congratulations to the three students from our partnership schools who received their qualification in August.
Latin provides great insight into how many of the modern European languages work and have developed over time, with the GCSE also involving the study of inspirational literature, such as Virgil’s epic ‘The Aeneid’ in the original Latin.
Rob Southwell-Sander, Director of Partnerships at Abingdon, says: “Without the hard work and dedication of our own Classics department, and in particular Mr Price and Dr Burnand, this program would not be possible. I am grateful to them and delighted that so many students are coming along to the introduction to this course which we are running this week. Students who choose to do Latin will learn new things, meet young people from other schools and feel challenged.”
