Abingdon's Canoe Polo team headed to Wales on Friday night to spend the weekend competing in the B-League at Cardiff University's Canoe Polo Tournament.
The first five games were part of a round robin which seeded the teams for the knock out on the Sunday. Abingdon won all five of its group games beating Cardiff, Swansea, Southampton, Bristol and Loughborough University teams giving us a bye into the quarter finals.
In the quarter finals we faced Bangor where we secured an early lead and ended up winning 5-1. The semi-finals bought us a very tough match against Southampton with some tense moments and the play looking like it could go either way but with Abingdon managing to clinch a 3-2 victory securing us a place in the final against Nottingham University.
This was the hardest match of the competition with the score being 2-2 at half time and both teams looking tired after a long day of matches. A few more goals were scored by each team with Abingdon just edging ahead and coming out victorious with a final score of 4-3 meaning that we won Gold in the league. Well done to all the players and in particular to Simon Maddison and Hamish McAlpine in their last tournament with the school team.
