31 students of Ancient History visited the British Museum for the chance to see first-hand some of the artefacts they have been studying in class. Students from the Fourth Year visited galleries on ancient Iran, Mesopotamia and Assyria, including the famous Cyrus Cylinder, sculpture from Persepolis and the fantastic Assyrian stone reliefs of military and hunting scenes (one depiction of a siege engine looked a lot like a dalek!). Meanwhile students from the Upper Sixth explored the ideology of Greek identity in opposition to the Other through the Parthenon sculptures, Bassae frieze and other artefacts relevant to the Culture of Athens course.
