Focus on Partnerships
By Rob Southwell-Sander, Director of Partnerships

It’s been a bumper start to the new year for our partnerships team who have been involved with over 2,000 hours of partnership activities in January alone.

In addition to our regularly run initiatives which include Latin GCSE classes, the Abingdon Primary Science Club and Primary School Science Workshops, the team have been busy training the new cohort of Lower Sixth academic coaches. These students have been learning about leadership, coaching and safeguarding and will now be matched up with younger peers from other schools, who they will help to build positive work habits.

We are delighted that this month has also seen the launch of our first primary multisport activity club. Taking place after school on Thursday afternoons at Tilsley Park, the sessions are open to our primary partner schools. These sessions are planned and delivered by Abingdon School’s sports scholar students (with input from the Abingdon School PE Department) and focus on the children developing skills around invasion games including hand-eye co-ordination, fitness and team work.

There have also been several events dedicated to older students – each providing valuable and practical advice so that young people within our community can make informed decisions about their future. To date, these have included shared lectures on gap year advice, career insight talks and an introduction to Oxbridge session, in which 70 students from across the OX14 Learning Partnership were able to find out more about the process.

As you can see, our partnership programme continues to grow and evolve, providing both students and staff with numerous opportunities to be challenged, inspired and supported.

There are plenty of exciting upcoming events. For more information, please click here.
