A group from Abingdon Carbon Cutters (ACC) enjoyed a guided walk around Upper Field and the Art Garden led by local botanist John Killick. During the walk, John focussed particularly on the many trees edging the field and explained their importance in terms of their place in geological time and the number of other species that are supported by a single tree. The tour ended in the lush vegetation of the Art Garden, behind the Amey Theatre, looking at the grasses and flowering plants growing in that area whilst accompanied by the dusk songs of Blackbirds and Great Tits, with Swifts hunting insects overhead. ACC volunteers are very keen to continue helping the school to assess the biodiversity on site and then suggest improvements that our students can carry out.
