Last week, 60 pupils and 6 staff visited the battlefields of Ypres and the Somme. We departed from school early and visited sites around Ypres and students attended the Menin Gate ceremony and laid a wreath from the school. On the second day, we visited sites on the Somme battlefields to learn about July 1st 1916 and on the final day we visited Arras and Neuve Chapelle to learn about the role of the Indian Army in 1915 and the battle of Arras in 1917. Students also learnt the stories of some OAs who are remembered at Thiepval and Pozieres cemeteries. It was an enjoyable trip and the Anglia Battlefields guides were very knowledgeable and helped bring the subject to life for the students.
