On Saturday, the Abingdon Badminton 1st team played the Sankey Academy. An interesting grudge match as Scott Sankey, the Academy owner, also happens to be our professional coach for Core Sport and the Other Half.
Scott picked well matched teams to create really competitive fixtures, with most matches being played into the high teens. We followed a format of both singles and doubles, playing a total of 24 games. Abingdon put in 100% but, in the end, only managed a total of 7 wins vs 17 for Scott. One of the key objectives of the fixture was to provide a more challenging opposition for our 1st VIII, who often win fixtures fairly easily. Overall the fixture was very successful with good levels of challenge for all players.
