Abingdon Science Partnership activities for 2019-20 got off to a flying start with our first visit to Caldecott Primary School where all of Year 2 have embarked on the CREST Star Science Investigator programme.
Over thirty Abingdon boys have already signed up for ASP core activities this year, including giving support for the CREST programme, Primary Science Club and Science Oxford's Saturday Science Clubs. In addition we hope to see many of these Science Ambassadors assisting at various events through the year, especially at the Abingdon ATOM Festival of Science and Technology next March.
The Senior Ambassador team met on Friday to discuss plans and to decide on new and demanding criteria for award of the prestigious ASP tie. Our partner schools have also instantly engaged with us again, with nearly all our weekly primary science workshops for this term already booked up.
At secondary level, pupils from local schools will be attending a GCSE Astronomy taster session next week; a very exciting opportunity is being planned for the ATOM Festival Student Ambassador team to participate in a public debate on climate change at the House of Lords in November and our termly, A-level Biology workshop, run by scientists from the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, was booked up even before the advert went out.
The year ahead is looking really exciting, we just hope we can take the pace!
