Year 3 children at Chandlings Prep School visited Abingdon Science Partnership's lab in the Yang Science Centre to try out the latest workshop in the ASP's primary science topic list.

In fact, Philippa Briggs, science co-ordinator at Chandlings, requested this topic, Light and Colour, so it was a great chance to try it out for the first time.

Chandlings pupils were fortunate to visit on sunny days, so the workshop started outside, using shadow sticks to measure the rotation rate of the Earth.

In the lab, the pupils then carried out four investigations into light, shadow, reflections and colours, recording all their measurements and observations in newly designed workbooks which they took away with them afterwards.

The children were very knowledgeable on the topic, but also learnt a lot of new things and suggested great ways to carry out the investigations themselves.

It turned out to be quite an Abingdon family affair, with a member of staff's daughter in one of the visiting classes and an Abingdon scientist-parent volunteering to help out as well.

All of the ASP's primary science workshops can be booked online via our booking portal which also gives more details of all the topics on offer at www.abingdonsciencepartnership.org.
