The two teams of lower sixth boys who won prizes in the Blott Matthews Airport to Airport Engineering Challenge were presented with their prize money and certificates this week by the challenge founders, Richard Blott and Charles Matthews. Richard and Charles were helped in judging the entries by Heather Williams, CEO of the Young Engineers charity, and Paul Evans who is a professional architect. Abingdon's Interport 20 team was awarded joint first prize and Team Daedalus came third. Richard and Charles, who have both held top level engineering posts in the Royal Navy and in commercial companies, were extremely impressed by the high quality of the reports, the level of research that went into the submissions and the obvious talent of the team members. In their feedback to the teams they commented that in their opinions, as professional engineers, the submissions produced by the boys would not have been out of place as professional tenders for genuine engineering projects. This has been an exceptionally rewarding experience for all concerned and the boys were all keen to express their gratitude to Charles, Richard and Young Engineers for giving them this inspiring opportunity.
