Last Thursday the athletics squad travelled to the infamous Sir Roger Bannister Track on the Iffley Road to compete in the prestigious Achilles Relays.

The first meeting was held at Iffley Road in 1963 and has seen performances rank as all-time bests for their age group. It is also one of the few occasions when some of the races continue to be run.

The performance of the day went to the junior (U15) middle distance team, who obliterated the field in the 4x800m winning the Guy Butler Trophy in a time of 9.07 (only 15 seconds off the all time meet record). Special mention must go to Johnny James for running the fastest split of 2:11, closely followed by Henry Channon in 2:14.

The junior sprint squad performed superbly in their first meet of the season running a time of 51:3s in the final of the 4x100m. They also ran a time of 1:48 for the 4x200m, which wasn't quite fast enough for a place in the final.

The senior sprint team narrowly missed out on a place in the 4x100m final, but the middle distance runners finished with a bronze medal in the 4x800m in a time of 9:06. Special mention goes to Alexander Pennington (L6) and Kipp Mainstone (5th yr) who ran 2:08 and 2:09 respectively.

Well done to all involved!
