On Thursday 4 May the Athletics Club travelled to the Sir Roger Bannister Track to compete in the Achilles Relays. The site where Sir Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile on May 6, 1954.
Attracting the best school boy athletes in the country the first Achilles meet was held in 1963 and is host to some of the longest standing events, such as the 4x100m Hurdles. With 24 schools competing this year the competition was fierce and Abingdon unfortunately failed to qualify into the finals of the 4x100m and 4x800m. To attend a meet steeped in so much history was a fantastic learning experience for the boys who enjoyed the challenge.
