Academic endeavour in music embraces many different components including aural skills, musicology, analysis, set works study, performing and composing. These areas are supported with a wide range of composition and performing opportunities, including concerts, workshops, masterclasses and international tours. All First and Second Year pupils study Music which becomes optional from the Third Year, focusing on core set works and composition using the latest Sibelius software. At both GCSE and A Level, equal weighting is given to performing and composing. Sixth Form musicians are encouraged to attend extension classes in advanced harmony and analysis, particularly those aiming for Oxford or Cambridge.
