The department aims for pupils to find mathematics an interesting and enjoyable field in its own right, while recognising its centrality to modern endeavours in scientific, financial, and computational fields. Success requires a logical, rational approach, dedication, and determination. First Year pupils are taught in tutor groups and in all other years there is some setting to allow pupils to work at a pace which suits them. Maths is compulsory to GCSE, with top sets in Fifth Year also completing the FSMQ Additional Maths qualification. Both Maths and Further Maths are offered at A Level.
